Merthur fic recs for my @merlinbingo square H2 'enemies to lovers'
This is one of my favourite tropes and I have loved re-reading some of these fics while putting these recs together. My recs are all smutty, some very smutty, but I guess that's kinda what I love about this trope :))
World Enough and Time by alicephantomwise
Explicit; 19K; posted 2021; modern au
This is one of my very favourite Merlin fics. They are both expert assassins on opposite sides, with a slight age difference - the dynamic between them is so perfect and Arthur is so besotted with Merlin and the angst is so gorgeous. Can't recommend this enough. The summary and tags don't really sell it but it is so worth reading!
Arthur had had it all figured out. And then Merlin shot him in Beijing.
six months, four days by merelydovely
Explicit; 5.5K; posted 2021; modern with magic
This was gifted to me for the 2021 Glompfest and I love it so much! So much story and world building, great characterisation, very very hot! Merlin is a leader of the magical resistance tasked with seducing Arthur to enable one of their plans
“As long as it’s not my idiot brother,” says Morgana, making a face. “I dunno,” says Merlin, eyeing the headshot labeled 'Arthur Pendragon'. “Magic-hater or not, he’s quite fit.” The Resistance movement needs an in with a member of an elite anti-magic task force. Merlin ends up far more entangled than he'd planned.
Sweet Retribution by SPowell
Explicit; 30K; posted 2012; modern au; dub-con
The whole premise of this fic is non-con/dub-con - Arthur is contracted to Merlin by Uther in order to save his business. In that context the fic is actually very sweet overall (but not sweet at all in places) and both characters go on a huge emotional journey, especially Merlin, and the shift in how Merlin thinks about himself and Arthur over time is brilliantly written. Features a great Merlin and Will friendship too. It may be too dark for some and it doesn't have many tags so if you want to know more about it before trying it feel free to DM me
Merlin hates the wealthy. A perfect opportunity to purge himself of his feelings of helplessness against them comes in the form of the young Arthur Pendragon.
Excalibur Hotel and Casino by rubyjayne
Mature; 3.2K; posted 2021; modern au
The hottest kiss on AO3 - big claim I know but it lives up to it. Such excellent 1:1 vibes with Merlin being a little shit and Arthur full of arrogant swagger *fans self*
“You just coughed, deliberately.” The man clenches his jaw, a look of genuine irritation on his face, and Merlin can’t help but roll his eyes. “Admit it.”  “Bravo, jackass, you caught me,” Merlin deadpans, slightly pissed now. “No fooling you, huh?” The iconic 5x12 tavern scene, but Merlin meets Arthur at a casino in Las Vegas.
My Significant Bother by Leandra
Explicit; 96K; posted 2021; modern royal au
I love all Leandra's fics and this one is a modern royalty au with such good snark and friction turning to feelings and affection between Merlin and Arthur - the fake boyfriends with benefits phase is so hot
Merlin's job as PR junior on the royal account isn't as glamorous as people believe: Most nights, he's saving Arthur, Duke of York and black sheep of the family, from possibly committing monarchy-shattering shenanigans... Roped into posing as Arthur's fake boyfriend, he's supposed to make Arthur's popularity levels rise with his steadfast and relatable presence and elevate him from scandalous rake to romantic figure...
This Is Not What I Came for (It's Better) by GeekLover
Explicit; 56K; posted 2016; modern sports au
An Olympics AU is perfect for enemies to lovers, right? In this one they are both gymnasts who do not like each other. Until they do ;-) Gaius is the unsung hero of this fic, trying to deal with them both
At the 2012 Summer Olympics, Great Britain's men's gymnastics is ready to work together to win gold, except two members can't get along. When Merlin & Arthur get caught on camera fighting like idiots, Gaius comes up with a solution to knock some sense into them. Merlin and Arthur have to share a room and decide if what they have in common outweighs their major differences.
Just Can't Get Enough by Ravenwilds
Explicit; 1.7k; posted 2024; mob/mafia au
And a bonus self-rec - it's a hate sex mob/mafia AU and more enemies to fuck-buddies than enemies to lovers but I was happy with how it turned out
“There’s no need to be pissy. I’ll go if you want me to.” Arthur paused. “If that is what you really want.” “Yes, it's what I want,” Merlin spat back. “Or do you want my knee in your balls again?” “I want your face in my balls and you fucking want it there too, sweetheart,” Arthur replied.

Title: Feeling Lucky? Exploring the World of Casino Big Wins
Tumblr media
Casinos have long been synonymous with excitement, thrill, and the possibility of striking it big. For many, the allure of hitting a jackpot or scoring a massive win is what draws them to the gaming tables and slot machines. From the dazzling lights of Las Vegas to the opulent casinos of Monte Carlo, stories of monumental wins have captivated the imaginations of gamblers and non-gamblers alike.
One of the most iconic tales of casino big wins comes from Las Vegas, where a fortunate gambler turned a $100 bet into a staggering $39.7 million jackpot on the Megabucks slot machine at the Excalibur Hotel and Casino. The win, which occurred in 2003, remains one of the largest slot machine payouts in history and serves as a testament to the life-changing potential of casino gaming.
Similarly, the world of high-stakes poker has produced its fair share of memorable wins, with players competing for multimillion-dollar pots in tournaments like the World Series of Poker. One such example is the legendary victory of Chris Moneymaker, an amateur player who turned a $40 online satellite entry fee into a $2.5 million payday by winning the 2003 WSOP Main Event. Moneymaker's Cinderella story not only catapulted him to fame but also helped popularize online poker and inspire a new generation of players.
In addition to individual triumphs, some casino resorts have gained renown for their reputation as hubs of big wins and high rollers. The Wynn Las Vegas, for example, is known for hosting some of the largest baccarat wins in history, with players betting millions of dollars per hand in the exclusive VIP rooms. Similarly, the famed Casino de Monte-Carlo in Monaco has a storied history of attracting wealthy patrons and celebrities, with tales of extravagant wins and losses adding to its mystique.
While tales of casino big wins can be exhilarating, it's important to remember that gambling comes with risks and should be approached responsibly. For every success story, there are countless instances of losses and setbacks, underscoring the unpredictable nature of casino gaming.
In conclusion, casino big wins have captured the imagination of people around the world, offering a glimpse into the world of high-stakes gambling and the thrill of chasing fortune. Whether it's a multimillion-dollar jackpot on the slot machines or a high-stakes poker tournament victory, these stories serve as a reminder of the exhilarating highs and daunting lows that come with the pursuit of wealth and success in the world of casinos.

I just watched that scene where King Candy told Ralph that he was going to go in the fungeon, Ralph had the most appalled look on his face he was "😟," like, head tilt and everything. I'd like to mention that King Candy had to explain the play on words:
KC: "If I see you here again, Wreck-it Ralph, (insert angry chuckle) I'll lock you in my fungeon."
Ralph: "Fungeon?"
KC: "Fun dungeon, you know? It's a play on words."
Ralph: "😟??"(headtilt and minor grimace)
I thought if this because it could've been a nod to an arcade in Las Vegas, the Excalibur, which is Casino, gaming, and hotels....
... But then there's also the irony that dungeons aren't fun! And if they are, it usually means that it ain't that kid friendly. And since both Ralph and King Candy are adults, maybe Ralph was shocked that there would even be a 'fun dungeon' in a candy go-cart game. He also seemed like general, "WTF" energy. To be fair, if someone said that to me, I'd need a double-take

Road Trip Day 6: Destination Las Vegas
I will go ahead and admit I had never been to Vegas before, I wasn't really sure what to expect. That being said, it made it onto the list because I got a really good deal on a hotel like months ago when I was planning this whole thing.
But first, getting there...
The drive up into Sequoia National Forest was much worse than back down the mountains. I was kind of dreading it, considering how the roads were the night before. Then again, I was over-tired and frustrated and cranky. People being inconsiderate pricks really got to me. I really wanted to just pull over and refuse to drive further. Obviously I didn't. The lodge was definately worth the drive but we definately didn't have enough time to really explore the area, which is a shame. The drive down the mountains and seeing the landscape become more and more steppe then desert was amazingly cool.
We wanted to drive through Death Valley on the way to Vegas, but the hurricane three weeks ago ripped up the roads so bad, the park has been closed ever since. We took the more typical route, via the I-15, skating the edge of the Mojave, which was really cool to see. I expected it to be much hotter but it was only about 90 degrees. As we got closer to Nevada, there were more and more rock formations. Crossing into Nevada was exciting, it was a new state for me. There is pretty much nothing between the border and Vegas, just a few gas stations, and a casino at every one. I mean there are a few like that in California and Arizona too, but they are all on reservations.
Vegas...I was kind of surprised at the size of the city, its bigger than I thought. We were staying at the Mandalay Bay, like I said, I got this really good deal. It was crazy overwhelming, the size of the building, the parking garage. We were just so lost. The place is like a city.
I mean we saw the size of the thing, but when the lady handed us the keys for a room on the 57th floor it was like what? Surreal, we could see the whole city from our room.
We went to dinner and a show at the Excalibur, two hotels down. It was so amazing, the show was called the King's Tournament and was basically a jousting tournament with a bit of a story. After that we walked down the Strip and did a little sightseeing. Vegas is something alright, and it is worth seeing once but literally everything costs money, and is expensive, which was a bit annoying.
We got back to the hotel late, just to find out that the opening times for the pool, in Vegas mind you, are 9 AM - 6:30 PM. That was really annoying, we didnt even get to use the pool once. Gamblings 24/7 though, you know. Hubs and I each threw about $5 into slot machines there and won absolutely zero. That was to be expected.
My kid liked Vegas, it was loud and flashy and exciting. My facit, it's ok for like a weekend but meh. Definately not my top 5.

Las Vegas Transportation Strip: Navigating the Entertainment Capital with Ease
Las Vegas, famously known as the "Entertainment Capital of the World," offers visitors an electrifying experience, from world-class casinos and luxury hotels to renowned shows and nightlife. The Las Vegas Strip, a 4.2-mile stretch of dazzling lights and iconic landmarks, is the heart of the city. However, navigating this bustling avenue requires an understanding of the various Las Vegas transportation Strip options available. Whether you're a first-time visitor or a seasoned Vegas traveler, knowing your way around the Strip can enhance your overall experience.
Tumblr media
Transportation Options on the Las Vegas Strip
1. Walking: The Most Scenic Option
If you’re staying close to the Strip, walking is one of the best ways to experience Las Vegas. The pedestrian-friendly walkways, bridges, and sidewalks provide a unique way to take in the stunning architecture, neon signs, and lively street performers. However, the Strip is longer than it appears, and the desert heat can be intense, especially in the summer months.
Pros of Walking
Enjoy the sights and attractions up close
No need to wait for a ride or navigate traffic
Cost-effective and environmentally friendly
Cons of Walking
The Strip is approximately 4.2 miles long, making long walks tiring
Extreme heat, especially in summer, can be uncomfortable
Navigating through crowds can be time-consuming
If you plan on walking, be sure to wear comfortable shoes and stay hydrated, especially during the hotter months.
2. Monorail System
The Las Vegas Monorail is a fast and efficient way to travel along the Strip. Running from the MGM Grand to the Sahara Las Vegas, this system connects several major resorts and can help you avoid traffic congestion.
Monorail Stops
MGM Grand
Horseshoe/Paris Las Vegas
Flamingo/Caesars Palace
Harrah’s/The LINQ
Convention Center
Westgate
Sahara Las Vegas
Monorail Benefits
Operates from 7 AM to midnight (extended hours on weekends)
Frequent service with trains arriving every few minutes
Air-conditioned rides, making it comfortable even in summer
The downside is that the monorail doesn’t stop at every major casino and hotel, so you may still have to walk or use another form of transportation to reach your destination.
3. Rideshare and Taxis
For those who prefer private transportation, rideshare services like Uber and Lyft, along with traditional taxis, are available throughout the Strip.
Rideshare vs. Taxi: Which Is Better?
Uber/Lyft: Generally cheaper, app-based service, and provides upfront pricing
Taxi: More readily available at designated taxi stands, no need for an app, but can be more expensive due to metered fares
Tips for Using Rideshare and Taxis
Designated pickup and drop-off zones are located at all major resorts
Prices surge during peak hours and events
Always confirm your driver’s identity before getting into a car
4. Public Bus System (Deuce and SDX)
Tumblr media
The Regional Transportation Commission (RTC) of Southern Nevada operates two primary bus services for Strip visitors: The Deuce and the Strip & Downtown Express (SDX).
The Deuce
Runs 24/7 along the Strip with stops at nearly every major casino
Double-decker buses provide a great view of the city
Affordable, with a 24-hour pass costing around $8
SDX (Strip & Downtown Express)
Faster service with fewer stops
Operates from 9 AM to midnight
Ideal for getting between the Strip and Fremont Street
Buses can be crowded during peak hours, but they offer a budget-friendly way to get around.
5. Free Trams and Shuttles
Several hotels and resorts offer free tram and shuttle services for visitors. These are great for short-distance travel along the Strip.
Popular Free Tram Routes
Mandalay Bay - Luxor - Excalibur: Great for accessing South Strip attractions
Park MGM - Aria - Bellagio: Connects key resorts in the central Strip
Mirage - Treasure Island: Quick transport between these two popular resorts
Some off-Strip hotels also provide free shuttle service to major Strip locations, making it convenient for guests.
6. Renting Scooters and Bikes
For those who prefer a more independent mode of transportation, renting a scooter or bike can be a fun and convenient way to explore the Strip.
Where to Rent
Various rental shops offer hourly and daily rates
Some hotels provide rental services for their guests
Scooters are a great option for individuals with mobility issues, while bikes allow for quick travel without the hassle of parking.
7. Limousines and Luxury Transportation
For a VIP experience, consider hiring a limousine or private luxury car service. Many companies offer Strip tours and point-to-point transportation in high-end vehicles.
Why Choose Luxury Transportation?
Ideal for special occasions like weddings, bachelor parties, and corporate events
Offers a stylish and comfortable ride
Can be pre-arranged for convenience
8. Helicopter and Specialty Tours
For an unforgettable experience, consider booking a helicopter tour over the Las Vegas Strip. Various companies offer aerial tours that showcase the city’s dazzling lights from above.
What to Expect
Short flights (typically 15-20 minutes)
Spectacular nighttime views
Private or group bookings available
While not a primary mode of transportation, helicopter tours provide a unique perspective of the Strip.
Tumblr media
Navigating the Las Vegas Strip is easy with multiple transportation options catering to different needs and budgets. Walking is great for short distances, while the Monorail and RTC buses offer affordable transit. Rideshare and taxi services provide convenience, while limousines and private cars add luxury to your experience. Free hotel trams and shuttles are a budget-friendly choice, and scooters or bike rentals offer a unique way to explore. Whether you're visiting for business, leisure, or a special occasion, choosing the right mode of transportation will ensure you have a seamless and enjoyable experience on the Strip.
Final Thoughts
Navigating the Las Vegas Strip is easier than ever, thanks to the variety of transportation options available. Whether you prefer to walk, take the monorail, ride the Deuce bus, or opt for a private luxury ride, understanding these options can help you make the most of your Vegas adventure.
